The List of The Names of The Ten Companions Who Were Promised Paradise While They Were Still Alive.

In the early history of Islam, there exists a select group of individuals whose names shine with unmatched honor. They are known as al-ʿAsharah al-Mubashsharūn bil-Jannah (العشرة المبشّرون بالجنة) — the Ten Companions Promised Paradise, a group of ten individuals who were explicitly promised Paradise by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) during their lifetimes. This promise is based on a specific hadith:

Narrated 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

"Abu Bakr is in Paradise, 'Umar is in Paradise, 'Uthman is in Paradise, 'Ali is in Paradise, Talhah is in Paradise, Az-Zubair is in Paradise, 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf is in Paradise, Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas is in Paradise, Sa'eed bin Zaid is in Paradise, and Abu 'Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah is in Paradise."

Why did these Ten Companions Promised Paradise receive this honor? The answer is beautifully summarized by Said ibn Jubayr (رحمه الله) in a short but profound phrase:

"They were in front of the Prophet in fighting, and behind him in prayer."

This statement conveys a powerful message: attaining Paradise is not a matter of wishful thinking. Paradise is precious, and it must be truly earned and worked for — after, of course, the mercy of the Most Merciful.

It is also important to note that there are also a number of other Companions who were given the glad tidings of Paradise on seperate occasions, such as Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, Bilal ibn Rabah,`Abd-Allah ibn Salam, `Ukashah ibn Muhsan and others.

The Companions are the elite of this Ummah and the best of creation after the Prophets and Messengers. They hold a virtue above every Muslim, and reflecting on their virtues revives their honorable memory and inspires us to follow their example.

They belonged to the best generation, in the best century, and there will never again be people like them. These are the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, and may Allah be pleased with them all.
