Questions

Good to know.

What do I get, and how big can I print it?

You get a high-resolution image file of the full chart, ready right after checkout and emailed to you. It's made to print sharply up to a 50 × 70 cm poster, and it also prints well at smaller sizes such as A3 or A4.

Nothing is shipped. If you'd like it printed and ready to hang, choose the A1 framed poster or the canvas above.

How accurate are the angles?

Each true-north angle is calculated along the great circle, the shortest path over the Earth from the city to the Ka’bah. Those angles never change.

Compass angles also allow for magnetic declination, which drifts slowly over the years. For the exact direction where you stand, use a Qibla compass or our interactive globe.

You can explore it all on the interactive page.

How do I download it?

Right after checkout you'll see a download link, and we email it to you as well. If anything goes wrong, email [email protected] and we'll send it again.

Can I share or sell the file?

The file is for personal use. Print as many copies as you like for your home, family and gifts, but please don't resell or redistribute it. For schools, masjids and organisations, email us and we'll gladly help.

Which format should I choose?

A1 framed poster ($139): the largest, in a real wood frame, ready to hang.

Canvas ($99): 20 × 28 in, soft texture and no glare, no frame needed.

Digital download ($8): a file to print yourself, the most affordable way to have it.

The Direction of Prayer Towards the Kaabah in Makkah al-Mukarramah

The qibla (Arabic: قِبْلَة, lit. 'direction') is the direction towards the Kaaba in the Sacred Mosque in Mecca, which is used by Muslims in various religious contexts, particularly the direction of prayer for the salah. In Islam, the Kaaba is believed to be a sacred site built by prophets Ibrahim and Ismail, and its use as the qibla was ordained by Allah in several verses of the Quran revealed to Muhammad in the second Hijri year.

Before the development of astronomy in the Islamic world, Muslims used traditional methods to determine the qibla. These methods included facing the direction that the companions of Prophet Muhammad had used when in the same place; using the setting and rising points of celestial objects; using the direction of the wind; or using due south, which was the direction of the qibla in Medina.
